The Kashmir Files has been awarded ‘Best Film’ of 2022 at the recently held Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.
The Vivek Agnihotri directed film was lauded by audiences for showing a no-filter look at the Kashmir valley issues and incidents of violence reported during the Kashmiri Pundit exodus in the early 90’s.
The hard-hitting subject of the film, despite all it’s graphic details into the violence that erupted in the valley, went on to become one of the biggest success stories of the year.
Starring Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Bhasha Sumbli, Mithun Chakraborty and Darshan Kumar, among others – the film has bested other popular Bollywood mainstream films to win the award.
The filmmaker who has been very vocal about his stance against the violence in Kashmir left a special note on his social media after the win, as he dedicated the award to “all the victims of terrorism and to all the people of India for your blessings”.
After the juggernaut commercial victory of the film this past year, it appears it is now time for it to sweep all awards also.
