Shaadi.com May Now Start Matchmaking For Same-Sex Couples

Shaadi.com is about to make a groundbreaking star in India. The famous matrimonial portal, which provides a platform to lakhs of Indians to find a partner for themselves in the good old-fashioned “arranged marriage way”, is now extending its services to alternate sexualities.

The website is reported to have been considering including matchmaking services for same-sex couples who are looking for a matrimony-like long-term relationship.

Although it was only recently that the Supreme Court of India overruled a decision by a previous bench, which had set aside the verdict of Delhi High Court that decriminalized homosexuality and there is yet no legal sanction of same-sex marriages in the eyes of law, there are plenty of LGBTQ couples who are willing to tie the knot, notwithstanding what provision the law has for them.

This growing need of Queer couples has been recognized by the portal, at least as per the company’s founder – Anupam Mittal.

During a recent chat with Business Insider, here’s what Anupam was quoted telling:

“We see ourselves as a platform for companionship and matchmaking…That could mean for different markets, different regions, different countries, different sexes. We don’t have a problem with that. But we will significantly expand the kind of things that we do from a matchmaking context,” he said.

Truly everyone deserves to settle down and have equal opportunities and rights when it comes to something as basic as finding someone to marry.

Perhaps it is also time, India should evolve and all governments and authorities should come together to legally validate such marriages.

It is high time, India comes forward to recognize a community that has always existed since the beginning of time, but has only recently started fighting for their rights.
