BSF Constable Refuses Rs 11 Lakh Dowry, Says ‘Bride More Valuable Than Money’

A constable from Jaipur has set a beautiful example of societal war against the act of dowry, by rejecting a sum of Rs 11 Lakh being offered by the bride’s family.

Accordingly to a report by TOI, BSF constable, Jitendra Singh – who recently tied the knot in Jaipur – refused the monetary sum from his in-laws, setting an example in his community.

Jitendra was happy with the fact that his would be wife was educated, with a bright future ahead of her and couldn’t value any form of money more than that.

Here is what he said to the girl’s family, which apparently brought them to tears:

“Chanchal (the bride) is preparing for Rajasthan Judicial Services and if she becomes a magistrate, this would be more valuable for our family than money.”

Despite the fact that Dowry is a punishable offensive as per the Indian Penal Code, it is still rampantly practised in our country and some societies just can’t seem to do away with it, despite all the social awareness being spread on the matter.

But Jitendra did not put himself under any such pressure, as he made the individualistic decision to not accept the dowry being offered by the girl’s family and instead took a mere ‘shagun’ of Rs 11 and a coconut.

That is how you set an example. Let us hope the coming generation totally puts an end to this social evil.
