After Calling Karwa Chauth Regressive, Ratna Pathak Shah Says RRR Is A Regressive Film

Ratna Pathak Shah had drawn the ire of many when she had ridiculed the emotions of countless women who fast for their husbands during Karwa Chauth, by calling the practice ‘appalling’ and ‘regressive’. The actress had then stated how she fails to understand how modern educated women keep fasts for the long lives of their husbands.

Once again, the ‘Lipstick Under My Burqa’ actress upset fans of SS Rajamouli’s superhit film RRR, by calling it a regressive film.

While RRR is heading for a history-making Oscar nomination, after scoring historic nods at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice awards, Ratna noted how filmmakers need to look at their work critically.

The actress was seen during launch of a book by Sabah Khan in Mumbai and said. The book is entitled – ‘The Queen, The Courtesan, The Doctor, The Writer’, which is a compilation of 50 inspiring stories of Muslim women and their achievements in India over time.

She said during the event:

“Films like RRR are so popular today. But it’s a regressive film. It looks backwards while we should look forward. We just feel whatever we are doing is good because we are part of the mother of democracy — India.”

She further added:

“Until filmmakers will not see their work critically, we will have to watch films like RRR. But we don’t like criticism. Our ego gets hurt, This atmosphere is created by so many big people and unfortunately, we have accepted it.”

As expected, her statements on the much-beloved film has not gone down well with it’s ardent fans.
