After Ruling Audience In United States, RRR Tops Box Office In Japan – Becomes Biggest Indian Film There

RRR has already been hailed as the biggest export of Indian cinema to United States in the past many years.

The SS Rajamouli directorial has been garnering unprecedented attention with American audiences, after breaking several box office records with Pan India audiences.

Months after the film’s continuous success with western audiences, the film was finally released in Japan this past week – and with all the hype revolving around it’s international reception, it has now repeated it’s success in the island country as well.

RRR has achieved the biggest opening for an Indian opening in Japan, securing #10 spot in it’s weekly box-office chart, which is the biggest number for an Indian film.

Just after three days of it’s release in Japan, the film has taken further it’s overall worldwide gross collection of over Rs 1100 crore.

After earning 14.5 million dollars in the United States, RRR minted JPY73 million (Rs 4 crore) in Japan within just 3 days in around 200 screens across 44 cities.

The rest of the 9 spots in the Top 10 were taken by local Japanese films.

The success story of RRR will not be ending anytime soon, as it also eyes multiple nominations at the upcoming Oscars – with the biggest award-hype that has ever been received by an Indian film in the north American circuit.

Would be interesting to see if the film finally manages to break decades old Oscar drought, with all the acclaim and love that has come it’s way.

It is safe to say, that more records are to be broken in the forthcoming days and weeks.
