It has been over 36 years since Smita Patil – one of the most acclaimed actresses of Indian cinema, passed away as a result of childbirth complications back in the year 1986.

With 17th of October marking as the birth anniversary of the celebrated and iconic actress, it is a especially bittersweet time for her son, Prateik.

During a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, Prateik revealed that he remembered her mother by spending his day with an NGCO that shelters and feeds stray animals.

He also went on to add that days around her mother’s birthday still make him feel ‘extremely vulnerable.’

Here is what he was quoted telling the publication:

“It is an extremely vulnerable day for me… her birthday and her death anniversary, are two extremely vulnerable days for me. (However) I feel extremely blessed and humbled with all the wishes that pour in. Mostly, I’m in my own thoughts, I think about her all day and I feel lost, but there’s always lots of love.”

He explored her vulnerable feelings further:

“It hits you when you are not expecting it or in my case, you can be born with it. I was used to grief at a very young age. I learnt to live with it at a young age. It made me stronger. (So) I’m numb to grief. (Of course) I have lived without my mother my entire life, my heart has been broken, so it’s something I have lived with, I have gotten used to it.”

Smita Patil died on 13 December 1986. The iconic star was known for her stellar performances in films like Arth, Bhumika, Manthan and Chakra.

She would have turned 67 in 2022.
