Mahima Chaudhary Returns To The Big Screen, Joins Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ As Author Pupul Jayakar

One of the most popular actresses of 90’s, Mahima Chaudhary to make her return in Bollywood movies with a role in ‘Emergency’. The ‘Pardes’ actress will play the role of Pupul Jayakar, a cultural activist and writer.

On Saturday, the ambitious film’s director Kangana Ranaut revealed Mahima’s look from the movie. Ranaut shared the poster of her movie featuring Mahima Chaudhary and wrote, “Welcome to the team, ma’am.”

Emergency will be Kangana Ranaut’s second directorial movie after Manikarnika.

Kangana will also play the lead role of Indira Gandhi in the movie – which has already generated enough buzz on media. The movie revolves around the life of former Indian PM Indira Gandhi and will show the infamous emergency era in detail.

Veteran Actor Anupam Kher will also be a part of the film – as was earlier revealed by the actors. Kangana shared his look as political leader Jayaprakash Narayan. Shreyas Talpade, who garnered praise for her work with his earlier films like ‘Iqbal’ and ‘Dor’, will be seen in the role of another former Indian Prime Minister – Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

While speaking with Etimes, Kangana talked about Mahima’s character in the movie and said –

“Pupul Jayakar was an author, a very close friend of Mrs Gandhi and has also written her autobiography. Mrs Gandhi confided in her about everything. If there is one thread that runs through the film and connects the audiences to the inner world of Mrs Gandhi, then it’s the character of Pupul Jayakar. Even though the film is a first-person account, it is not a film where somebody is the narrator. Mrs Gandhi’s interactions with Pupul are the most soulful. They shed light on how she confided her deepest darkest secrets to Pupul Jayakar. This makes her character an important person in the film called Emergency.”

Earlier Kangana Ranaut revealed her first look as Indira Gandhi through a teaser for which she received massive praise from across all quarters.
