Daler Mehndi Says He’s The Highest Charging Playback Singer In India, ‘Other singers don’t get money’

Daler Mehndi was no doubt one of the biggest things in the 90’s Indipop scene.

The energetic Punjabi singer, even before his foray into mainstream Bollywood created some of the most memorable dance-anthems of that time and some of them have even managed to stand the test of time, as they still get played around a lot.

Mehndi, who’s 54, says that he’s always been very particular about what song he wants to sing and what kind of music he wants to associate with – something that hasn’t changed for him, over the years.

Here’s what he was quoted as saying by Indian Express:

“I need to like the song and its lyrics, it should be socially good for the new generation too”

Daler also wasn’t shy while boasting about his charges as a performing/recording artist. Daler claimed he’s the highest charging artist of today in the Indian playback music scene.

“There isn’t an artiste costlier than me in India’s playback singing scene. I demand maximum money for a song. Other singers don’t get money.”

The powerful singer insists that it’s because of him being choosy and his high price that he has comparatively less songs out, than some other singers out there:

“That’s the reason why I have less songs, firstly because I’m too costly to afford, secondly I’m very choosy about the songs and thirdly, I don’t want to do dirty work in market”

More power to you Daler Mehndi.
