Tanha Dil: 20 Years Later Singer Shaan Recreates The Iconic Indipop Song For ‘Mental Health Awareness’

Tanha Dil was definitely one of the most iconic recordings of the early 2000’s, when the Indipop music was at the brink of oblivion after experiencing a peak in the mid to late 90’s – giving mainstream Bollywood music quite a competition.

It also ranks as one of the most iconic recordings by singer Shaan – who has done several other award-winning songs from Bollywood in his long career.

The song no doubt still induces nostalgia among those who grew up listening to the song, and after nearly 20 years since its release, Shaan has revamped his signature tune with new lyrics and a new message.

The singer has attempted to bring light to the subject of mental health, with revisited lyric of the song, which also celebrates the track’s 20th anniversary.

As per news agency PTI, Shaan was quoted telling:

“Coincidentally it’s happening 20 years after the first track. We have tried to deal with a delicate topic sensitively and I hope people, apart from enjoying the song, imbibe the message as well. Mental health is a long and hard condition to deal with but there always is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

While sharing the video last month, Shaan stated:

“Over the years I have often been told to re-create Tanha Dil and have explored various ideas however with a sensing need to address #ClinicalDepressionAwareness I wanted to write a song on this issue. As I started to write the song, the phrase “Tanha Dil, Tanha Safar” seemed like the perfect fit.”
