When Kareena Kapoor Said, ‘I Don’t Think Nepotism Exists At All, I Don’t Believe In It’

The debate of nepotism in Bollywood and Indian politics has always existed. But never has it been as talked-about as it’s been for the past 4-5 years.

That is largely thanks to actress Kangana Ranaut, and her notorious interview with Karan Johar on Koffee With Karan – in which she labelled the filmmaker as the ‘industry mafia’ and the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’, fueling a heated debate that hasn’t calmed since.

Never have Bollywood star-kids, or relatives of those who’ve had a background in films, been made to go through questions ever so frequently that challenges the statue-quo and the dynamics of a very ‘family oriented’ industry.

But times are different now.

In a similar interactive podium, actresses and sisters – Karishma and Kareena Kapoor once faced questions pertaining to the ongoing debate of Nepotism, posed to them by news presenter – Rajdeep Sardesai. Their response, was that of total denial about the existence of the very concept in showbiz – which surprised many.

In her response, Omkara actress Kareena stated – “I don’t think nepotism exists at all, I don’t believe in it.”

She further added:

“There are a lot of star children, from famous film actors. I mean, if nepotism did exist, they would have been the no.1 actor [sic].”

The actress went on to give examples of Ranveer Singh, as someone who’s made it big in showbiz despite not boasting of a big filmy background.

Chiming-in to the sentiment, sister Karishma also agreed stating:

“Well honestly, I think it’s about talent. Because we may be anybody’s children or grand-children, or niece or nephew or whatever the case may be. But I genuinely feel that once you’re on that silver screen, you are just anyone. Anyone can rip you apart, anyone can give their opinion.”
