Anand Mahindra Buys a House For ‘Idli Amma’ Who Sells Idlis To Poor People For Rs 1

Remember Idli Amma?

The now-internet-famous ageing entrepreneur, who runs a small kitchen and keeps herself occupied with it by cooking and selling idlis has once again come to limelight for all the good reasons.

K Kamalathal – is her real name, and she earlier garnered a lot of attention and affection for continuing to sell her idlis at the same rate of Rs. 1, with which she started it some 30 years ago.



The ageing woman lives in a humble temporary residence with minimal means, yet manages to save enough to sell the idlis at such a nominal rates to feed the poor people of her area.

Her efforts were noted by none other than business tycoon, Anand Mahindra of the Mahindra group, who not only got her an LPG gas connection for cooking, via Bharat Gas Coimbatore – but has now also gifted her a new place to live and operate her small business from.

Anand Mahindra, who posts very actively on social media, shared the news of his contribution on Twitter – stating that they have now acquired a land, and the 80 year old will soon have a home of her own.

“One of those humbling stories that make you wonder if everything you do is even a fraction as impactful as the work of people like Kamalathal.” – he stated on his social media.



“She will soon have her own house cum workspace from where she will cook & sell idli,” he Tweeted.
