Raveena Tandon Exposes The Dirty Side Of 90’s Bollywood Journalism: “I Was Called Thunder-Thighs”

Raveena Tandon has always been someone who has spoken out her mind without any filter. The actress has time and again reflected on the state of female actors, that was back in the 90’s and how she was put through a lot of scrutiny by the tabloid-hungry media of that day.

During a recent interview, Raveena reflected at how the 90’s tabloids wrote her down after her broken engagement with Akshay Kumar (Yes! The two were a thing back then and were close to getting married, before they famously called it off) and how she body-shamed by journalists back in the day.

The interviewer brought-up how her engagement with Akshay is still a tabloid favorite subject after so many years, to which the actress responded by stating that the couple moved on soon after and so should people.

She then went on to claim how the 90’s female journalists were often the ones who were writing negative stuff about female actors, primarily because of their fascination with the male actors.

“90s gossip magazines were the worst” – she said. “And some of those women I see roaming around today carrying the women’s lib badge over their heads and their hearts – who were the worst enemies of women, would body-shame women, would slut-shame women, would do everything possible to bring another woman down. And today they roam around being the biggest feminists. So, I was like, when did that happen?”

She also went on to add how some media articles also body-shamed her by calling her ‘thunder-thighs’

“I don’t care now. I’ve been like that”

Raveena also reflected at how the power of social media changed that as the word of media was no longer the last word, and everyone had the platform to accept or deny a news.
