Kantara was one of the biggest hits of the year 2022.
The Rishabh Shetty directorial – which also starred him in the leading role, was made on a small budget of 16 crores and went on to gross nearly 450 crores at the global box office.
Inviting huge fanfare from cinegoers, the film also saw demands of a sequel from fans who loved the overall concept and backdrop of the film, and the makers have now complied.
Rishabh – who helmed the original story, after taking inspiration from local folklore and customs of his own village, has confirmed that there would indeed by a part 2 of the successful venture.
But it would be a prequel to the original story, instead of being a sequel.
Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, Rishabh confirmed that Kantara 2 will hit the screens on 2024.
“We thank the audience for their immense love and support for Kantara” he said during the event. Further adding: “With the blessing of almighty Daiva, the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of the film.”
The actor stated that research is still underway to dig into more details of the depth of the character’s origins story before they finalize a script and start shooting.
Let us hope the second installment of this would be as magical as the first one.
