Yash Asks People To Not Disrespect Bollywood After Success Of South Films

2020 was the most unique year in the history of Indian cinema.

It was a year that saw the biggest names and production houses in Bollywood struggle to make a mark in the box office, even when they came with much-anticipated flicks – while on the other hand, South Indian films ruled the box office across the country, breaking down the age-old language barrier.

Dubbed version of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films made a mark all through 2022 – which saw many moviegoers poke fun at the big-names of Bollywood, who failed to pull the same numbers.

Now KGF-2 star Yash has come in defense of Bollywood, seeing such attack’s.

Yash – whose film KGF-2 was the highest grosser of the year touching the coveted figure of 1,200 crores worldwide, asked people not to disrespect or ill-treat Bollywood, following this tough phase.

In an interview with Film Companion, the star called this just a phase for the Hindi film industry.

Here is what he was quoted telling the publication:

“I don’t want the people of Karnataka to put any other industry down, because we have faced the same problem when everyone treated us the same way. We have worked hard to get that respect. After that, we cannot start disrespecting anyone. We should respect everybody. Respect Bollywood. Forget this north and south.”

He further added:

“It’s not a good development when people start ridiculing Bollywood saying, ‘They are nothing’. It’s just a phase. They have taught us so many things.”

Well said Yash.

After all, cinema is art – and art should unite people and not divide them.
