Hera Pheri – released in the year 2000 quickly established itself as one of the most iconic comedies of Indian cinema.
Directed by Priyadarshan, the film created one of the most iconic on-screen characters of all time – Babu Rao Ganpat Rao Apte, played by none other than Paresh Rawal.
The character’s many shenanigans in the film were assisted by Raju and Ghanshyam, portrayed by Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, respectively – as the three formed one of the most loved trios in the genre.
The second part called Phir Hera Pheri came out 6 years later in 2006, and was not directed by Priyadarshan this time, but by Neeraj Vora. Although it wasn’t received as well by the critics as the original, it was loved by the audiences just as much.
Now that the news of the 3rd installment in the franchise, after nearly 16 years is coming to light – it has also been recently confirmed that the role of Raju – previously done by Akshay, will now be carried out by Karthik Aryan.
It is interesting to note, that Karthik had also played the lead role in the second part of Bhool Bhulaiyya, which is yet another film originally made famous by Akshay.
