Emotional & Powerful: New Trailer For Singer Whitney Houston’s Biopic Released By Sony Pictures India

Plenty of Hollywood biopics on late music stars have garnered acclaim and commercial success in the recent years.

Be it Renne Zellweger starrer ‘Judy’ based on Judy Garland’s life, or the Rami Malek starrer ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ chronicling the story of Freddie Mercury – music-based biopics haven’t only been hit with the fans, but they have also satisfied the artistic senses of cinephiles.

Joining the same league is now Sony Pictures’ latest offering ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ – which tells the story of the late Whitney Houston, first time ever for the big-screen.

The late singer, who died in the year 2012 at the age of 48, was hailed as one of the greatest voices of all time and also ranks among the highest selling recording artists in music history, with sales of over 200 million albums and songs.

But behind all that magnanimous success, was also her personal struggles with self-identity and substance addictions – topics that will be well-covered in this new Kasi Lemmons directed film, which has been written by the Oscar nominated screenwriter of Bohemian Rhapsody and The Two Popes – Anthony McCarten.

The film sees fairly new actress Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston, and going by the first looks of the film and the reenactment of some famous Whitney Houston live concert moments, she has already been garnering Oscar buzz for her performance.

The film also stars Stanley Tucci in the role of music mogul Clive Davis – who is credited for discovering Houston as a teenager, back in the early 80’s.
