‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ actress Mandakini reveals she received Rs. 1.5 Lakh per film at her time, “Heroines were not very much in demand”

Veteran Bollywood actress Mandikini became an overnight sensation with her role in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. Her sensual scenes in the movie grabbed a lot of headlines, as the actress rose to fame and grabbed a lot of projects after that.

Mandakini have worked in 48 movies in total in a career spanning 17 years. She was last seen on the big screen in 2002 in a Bengali film named Se Amar Prem. The popular actress has now made a comeback to the industry, featuring in a music video with her son, Rabbil Thakur.



Recently the Ram Teri Ganga Maili fame in a conversation with Pinkvilla spoke about the fees actresses received during her era, she said:

“That was a male oriented period. During those days heroines were not very much in demand. They were just used only for 3-4 songs and very few romantic scenes.”

She further said that actresses received around Rs. 1.5 Lakhs per film during that time:

“When I started signing movies, whatever was coming…What happened in that was there were some movies which shouldn’t have been done, that too I have worked for. Male used to decide with which actress they want to work. When we used to work in films, we used to earn around Rs. 1- 1.5 lakh for the full film.”



The yesteryear actress has worked in many popular movies like, Dance Dance, Loha, Jaal and the popular, Ram Teri Ganga Maili. But during the peak time of her career, Mandakini decided to go on the path of Tibetan culture and there she met her husband, a former Buddhist monk, Dr Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur.

The couple is now blessed with two Kids, Rabbil Thakur and Rabze Innaya Thakur.
