POLL: Should Bollywood STOP Remaking Old Songs And Classics? Vote Here!

A debate that has gone on for several years. Should the Indian music industry come out of it’s fad of remixing and remaking old classics?

The past couple of years has seen a constant trend of the young blood of Indian music scene’s current generation, reimagining old classics from 90’s and beyond – giving them a facelift, that has hardly been well-received by the listeners.

The likes of Badshah, Tony Kakkar and Neha Kakkar – are some of the star faces, who have mostly been at the center of the current fad of curating remixes out of old tunes, and many of these remakes have also managed to find viral success in today’s fast-age of social media and short reels.

Recently Kakkar has been wildly criticized and trolled for her remake of Falguni Pathak’s Maine Payal Hai Chhankayi – a song cited by many as reminiscent of the early 2000’s era of music.

But still – a significant criticism continues to rise against such productions, which questions the lack of originality and authenticity of new-age music creators. A question that continues to loom – whether classics should be retouched and repackaged in the form of fast-food.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Bollywood or the Indian Pop music scene should finally put a stoppage to remakes and remixes of old songs and start creating stuff that is their own, and original?
