17 year old Antim Panghal from Haryana’s Bhagana village in Hisar district scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win the U 20 world title.
Antim beat Kazakhstan’s Atlyn Shagayeva in the final by 8-0 to win the historic title. The world U-20 championship happened in Bulgaria’s captial Sofia.
This was the first time in the 34 year history of the competition that an Indian female was standing at the top of the podium.
World champion boxer and CWG 2022 Gold Medalist Amit Panghal also congratulated the young girl for her remarkable achievement.

Antim is the youngest of the four siblings and she took inspiration from her eldest sister Sarita who is a national level Kabbadi player for India.
As reported by Times of India, an overjoyed Antim said after the win – “I didn’t know about the record. Only after winning the final did my coaches tell me that I have become the first-ever woman wrestler from India to win the championships. It’s a proud feeling for everyone,”
She further said, “I am thankful to my parents for allowing me to pursue wrestling, especially my sister Sarita for always supporting and encouraging me. My target is to win an Olympic medal for the country and this is just the beginning for me,”
