Rajpal Yadav Says He Wanted To Be A ‘Lead Actor’ In Bollywood, But Also Never Rejected Supporting Roles

Rajpal Yadav is an actor who always manages to leave an impact with his performance even if the script of the movie is weak. The talented actor has time and again proved his mettle by giving us some of the most iconic characters.

The 51 year old actor has worked in many timeless movies like, Hungama, Chup Chup Ke, Malamaal Weekly, Dhol, Bhool Bhulaiya and the list is long. There are only few actors in the industry who have such impeccable comic timing.

While speaking with Filmfare, the veteran actor said that he wanted to play the lead roles of the movie but never turned down supporting roles, he said:

“Every actor dreams of being the main lead, but I have a bad habit of always leaving doors open for roles. If the role is 3–4 scenes, I think of it as a 20–20 cricket match where I have three overs to play. I think this is the IPL of entertainment, and if I have 3-4 overs here in which I do well, it’s all good. So I have never kept these boundaries that say ‘lead hai toh lead hi karunga.’ If there is a character where I get the opportunity that gives me the hook, I take it.”

He also talked about his latest blockbuster movie with Kartik Aaryan, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and said –

“In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, I think my habit of wanting to live the lives of unique characters has been good for me. If I had not taken up supporting roles, a caricature-like character in Bhool Bhulaiyaa would never have come to me. And I love doing this. My character should be enjoyed by kids, adults, and older people because, ultimately, we are not doing reality; we are doing the illusion of reality. Even in the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa, I’ve only got 3-4 scenes. But everyone loved it so much that everywhere there were so many miniatures. I dedicate this character to Charlie Chaplin because he had a unique charm as well,”

Rajpal Yadav was recently seen in the OTT release movie, Ardh. In the movie he played the role of a struglling actor who moved to mumbai but had to beg for money in the get-up of a transgender to make the ends meet.
