Randeep Hooda Fulfills His Promise, Performs Last Rites Of Sarabjit Singh’s Sister Dalbir Kaur

Dalbir Kaur passed away on 26th June at the age of 60 due to a heart attack. Dalbir was the sister of Indian citizen Sarabjit Singh, who accidently crossed border and was sentenced to death by Pakistani court.

Dalbir fought her whole life for the freedom of her brother Sarabjit who was imprisoned in a jail in Pakistan. Dalbir Kaur became a popular face both nationally and internationally and her struggle became a movement in the entire nation.

Six years ago a biopic on the life Sarabjit Singh and her sister Dalbir kaur was released. In the biopic, Randeep essayed the role of Sarabjit while Aishwarya Rai played the role of sister Dalbir.

Randeep Hooda received a lot of praise for his performance in the movie and also created a special bond with Sarabjit Singh’s sister after the release of the film. Dalbir said that she sees her brother Sarabjit in him and also requested Randeep to give her Kandha in her last rites.

Randeep fulfilled his promise and flew immediately to Amritsar, Punjab when he heard about the sad demise of Dalbir Kaur.

Upon arriving Randeep joined in the last rites procession and also helped in lighting the pyre during the last rites.

In an event in 2017, Dalbir Kaur said, I would like to tell Randeep that I have truly seen Sarabjit in him. I have a wish and I would like to take a promise from him that when I die, he should definitely give me ‘kandha’ (shoulder). My soul will receive peace that Sarabjit gave me ‘kandha.'”

She had also said, “It was a matter of great joy that I found my brother Randeep. In the film, he is not just a hero, but also my brother.”

Dalbir Kaur and Sarabjit’s story is truly one of the most heartbreaking cross-border tragedies. May they finally unite in heaven.

As for Randeep, kudos to him for keeping up with his word and fulfilling her wish.
