The two major female-led ventures which have garnered immense attention this year are – Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai and Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad.
While Alia’s film has flopped at the box office, due to it’s humungous budget and post-production costs – she has been praised a lot for her performance by the masses. On the other hand – Kangana Ranaut too is being lauded for her “path-breaking” role in ‘Dhaakad’ – which showcases a never before seen avatar of a Hindi cinema “heroine.” The commercial impact of the film is yet to be seen.
Gangubai saw Alia in a never-before-seen avatar of a sex worker, and also in her biggest female-led venture in terms of it’s scale. On the other hand, Dhaakad is being lauded as the first big-scale female-led action-thriller of Hindi cinema, with Kangana in a never-before-seen butt-kicking avatar.
So which of these on-screen strong portrayals can be deemed – the heroine of 2022?
