“Today, I lost my mother for the second time” – Sonu Nigam On Lata Mangeshkar’s Passing

Lata Mangeshkar’s passing has shook-up the entertainment world and the legion of her fans and music lovers, who adored her glorious instrument.

In a career spanning more than 7 decades, the iconic songbird of Indian music scene, created several unforgettable and timeless classic melodies.



Through all these years, she continued to inspire countless male and female playback singers in the Hindi film music scene and beyond. One such name was – Sonu Nigam.

Sonu, who was evidently heartbroken after hearing the news of his idol’s demise, took to his social media to express his emotions.

Calling her a ‘Goddess’, the singer said in his video:

“It’s the saddest day for our country. How painful it is that I am working and can’t be there.”

He further elaborated his pain, by stating that her passing is like ‘losing his mother for the second time’ for him:



“Lata ji was like my mother. On January 4, she sent me the last message which stated- ‘I am here don’t worry, Maa’. Today, I lost my mother for the second time. In 2013, I lost my mother and then again yesterday but I couldn’t be there. By the time I got the news, I was here and shooting.”

“She was a Devi.”
