Groom Gets Down On His Knees To Seek ‘Aashirwaad’ From The Bride In Bengali Wedding, To Reciprocate Her Gesture

We often come across people discussing over gender-specific rituals in traditional Indian weddings, and how they ought to be more fluid with changing times.

There are a number of old-school traditions that the newer generation seems to be altering or ditching altogether as per their modern ideologies and changing views.

Recently, a groom in a Bengali wedding also bent an age-old custom in an attempt to bring more equality in the ceremony. Right after the bride touched the groom’s feet to seek his ‘blessings’ as per traditions, he too got down on his knees to seek her ‘aashirwaad’.

Down on his knees, the groom named – Dipanjan, joined his hands as he showed his respect to the bride – Susmita.

The adorable video of their mutual love and respect, went viral on social media:

While some argued that this modern statement of feminism makes no difference in regular lives and that the traditions aren’t patriarchal, as they are being portrayed, the couple was happy with their gender-bending gesture.
