Actors Who Passed Away In The Year 2021 – A Year In Review

Apart from being yet another challenging year from the point of view of the ongoing global health crisis, 2021 was also pretty difficult for the entertainment industry.

Besides the commercial setbacks the industry had to face, with the non-releases of several delayed projects, forcing many producers and actors to opt for direct OTT release, the year also had some other major setbacks with the passing of some major acting talents and icons.

As we look back at 2021, here’s a brief homage to some of those actors and actresses who left us during the last one year.



1) Dilip Kumar

One of the most admired and respected actors of Indian cinema, who inspired countless other big stars who followed after him. Dilip Kumar AKA Yousuf Khan was the winner of multiple Filmfare awards and was famously seen in films like Naya Daur, Devdas, Mughal-E-Azam, among others. He passed away at the age of 98, and was survived by his long time partner and wife, actress – Saira Banu.

2) Siddharth Shukla



Sidharth Shukla had developed quite a following among the masses through her recent stint on Bigg Boss. He death was one of the shocking celebrity deaths of 2021, as he was only 41 and was relatively in an apparent healthy shape. Siddharth died of a cardiac arrest, leaving his fans and the industry stunned.

3) Surekha Sikri

Surekha Sikri had been acting in arthouse films for years before she became a household name with her role in television’s – Balika Vadhu. She lastly added another feather in her hat, by playing a memorable role in the box-office hit – Badhai Ho, for which she was awarded her career’s first National Award. She died on July 16 from a cardiac arrest at the age of 75.

4) Ghanshyam Nayak



He is best known for his role as Natu Kaka in Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta chashma. After playing the character for several years, the actor passed away on October 3 following a long battle with cancer.

5) Shashikala Saigal

She started her career from the black-and-white era of Hindi films, and then went on to become a recognizable face in Indian television as well. After her appearance in several films like – Sujata, Aarti, Anupama, Waqt, among others, Shashikala died on April 4 at the age of 88.

6) Rajiv Kapoor



The younger brother of Rishi Kapoor best known for his role in the iconic film – Ram Teri Ganga Maili. Rajiv Kapoor died following a massive heart attack on February 9 at the age of 58.

7) Farrukh Jaffer

She famously played Amitabh Bachchan’s wife Fatima Begum in Gulaabo Sitaabo. Farrukh Jaffer gained fame during a later point in her life and was seen in a number of notable films in the past couple of years. She died on October 15 at the age of 88.

8) Anupam Shyam



Anupam was a famous face of Indian television and was notably seen in the serial – Pratigya. He was suffering from poor health for some time and passed away on August 8 at the age of 63 from multiple organ failure.
