India’s Harnaaz Sandhu Wins Miss Universe, 21 Years After We Won With Lara Dutta – Watch Her Winning Speech Here!

India has ended it’s dry spell of bringing home the Miss Universe crown, after 21 years since it last brought home the title.

Harnaaz Sandhu from Punjab has won the 2021 Miss Universe competition – which took place in Eilat, Israel.

The 21 year old beauty represented India at the 70th year of the Miss Universe competition, edging out some pretty talented and beautiful contestants from countries like – Paraguay and South Africa.

The last time India won this title was back in the year 2000 – when Lara Dutta was crowned the Miss Universe. Before Lara, it was Sushmita Sen who won the same in the year – 1994.

Harnaaz was handed over the crown by Andrea Meza, who was the former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico.

While India took home the first position, Paraguay and South Africa were crowned the first and second runner-up titles, respectively.

Her intelligent answer during the Q&A round also contributed to her win. Harnaaz was asked – “What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today”

To which she replied:

“The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.”

In round 2 of the Q&A, she impressed the judges even more – as she dived into the subject of environmental problems and global warming.
