When Twinkle Khanna Spoke On Feminism And Said, ‘There Was Absolutely No Need For a Man’

Twinkle Khanna has always had her own individualistic opinions on all matters, not letting her free-spirited mind be affected by what people around her think or believe. And we always appreciate that about her.

The writer, columnist and former-actress, is known for having a fierce outlook towards all things – including politics, Bollywood, her colleagues and even her husband – Akshay Kumar.

But today I came across an interview of Miss Khanna, or Mrs. Funny Bones as she calls herself, which was done in the year 2020 – and her views on modern feminism were intriguing enough for me to revisit and talk about.

When quizzed about the concept of ‘modern feminism’ in her life or in her upbringing as Dimple Kapadia’s daughter, she was quick to jump to the presence of men in her life, which she equated to a total ‘unnecessity’, stating that although it would be nice to have a man, but that isn’t something that every woman ought to have.

While the message was quite resonant and clear, and pretty meaningful for everyone trying to walk their own individualistic path – it sadly somehow got caught in the ridiculous choice of juxtaposition, as she even went on to compare men with handbags.

“It would be very nice to have a man like you’d have a nice handbag.” Twinkle Khanna said in this interview with Algebra Conversations.

As you’d expect – People were quick to call out the star for giving a bad name to the cause of gender equality and female upliftment, as from whatever was seen in the interview, she constantly seemed to equate it to seeing her gender counterparts as ‘lesser than’.

And that is precisely the kind of thinking ‘feminism’ complains about in men!

What is your take on her interview above?

Pass along and discuss.
