Retired Army Officer Points Out Mistake In Gorkha Poster, Akshay Kumar Responds…

Soon after Akshay Kumar announced his upcoming flick ‘Gorkha’ along with the first-look and poster of the film, fans congratulated the actor on making a film to tell the story of a decorated war-hero of the legendary Gorkha Regiment of the Indian army.

But the actor also got some early critiques, just by the first-look through it’s preliminary posters.

Major Manik M Jolly, a former officer of one of the Gorkha Rifles regiments, took the opportunity to respond to the news – by correcting Akshay on the representation of the right kind of weapon used by the Gorkha regiemnt.

Major Manik pointed out that the ‘khurki’ (a type of machete) shown in the poster shared by Akshay Kumar, looked pretty different in reality.

“Dear @akshaykumar ji, as an ex Gorkha officer, my thanks to you for making this movie. However, details matter. Kindly get the Khukri right. The sharp edge is on the other side. It is not a sword. Khukri strikes from inner side of blade. Ref pic of Khukri att. Thanks,” he wrote, along with an image of the correct type of weapon used by the regiment.

The tweet did not go unnoticed by Khiladi Kumar as he not only accepted the mistake and promised to rectify it, but also asked for more suggestions to make the film as close to reality as possible.

The actor wrote:

“Dear Maj Jolly, thank you so much for pointing this out. We’ll take utmost care while filming. I’m very proud and honoured to be making Gorkha. Any suggestions to get it closest to reality would be most appreciated.”

The film will be based on the inspiring life and outstanding achievements of war-hero Major General Ian Cardozo, who fought in several wars from the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army.

Being directed by Anand L. Rai, the film is slated for a release in 2022.
