Defying age-old traditions according to which it has only been considered acceptable to have males perform the last rites of a deceased family member, actress and host Manidra Bedi carried the body of her husband, herself, for his cremation.
Bedi’s husband, actor and producer, Raj Kaushal passed away earlier this week after a sudden cardiac arrest – leaving her with their two kids – son Vir and daughter Tara.
An inconsolable Mandira, visibly affected by the unfathomable tragedy, was comforted by her family and industry friends who all gathered around her to provide her some emotional support.
Amidst it all, the actress not only participated in the last rites of her husband but also lifted and carried her husband’s bier – breaking age-old social traditions, of females being kept away from these rituals.
In heartbreaking images, Bedi was seen assisting in lifting the body of her husband and also heading to the cremation ground to perform his last rites.
