Ram Gopal Varma Says Kangana Ranaut Should “Stick To Films Like Manikarnika”, While Commenting On Her Film ‘Thalaivi’

Ram Gopal Varma has lent his two cents on Kangana Ranaut-starrer upcoming political biopic, Thalaivi.

The film is based on Tamilnadu former chief minister, the late Jayalalitha, with Ranaut reprising the titular character.

Commenting on the age-gap between the role and Ranaut herself, the renowned filmmaker has stated that they should have picked an actress who would have fit the age-bracket of the the political leader – when she was at the rise of her political career.

The director stated that Kangana “should not look different from her body” – which which, we suppose he is talking about the change in physical appearance that the actress had to undergo in order to essay the role.

“If I have a choice, I would like to see Kangana only in films like Manikarnika, but I would not like to see Kangana in the character of Thalaivi at all. A star like Kangana should not look different from her body and personality,” he was quoted telling Navbharat Times.

He further added:

“The only way to do justice to the role is by selecting an older, more refined actress. Kangana should stick to films like Manikarnika.”

Would be interesting to see what Kangana has to say to this.

Regardless, ‘Thalaivi’ is set to be released on 23 April 2021.
