Prachi Desai on Nepotism: “Bollywood is about playing within the film families”

Prachi Desai – who managed to find herself a platform in films after becoming a successful soap-opera star at a young age, hasn’t been spotted in the scene for a while.

And part of that has to do with how the film industry functions and treats artists with non-filmy backgrounds.

The actress, who was also seen in Farhan Akhtar’s critically acclaimed film – ‘Rock On’, is now gearing to make a comeback on OTT platform, with her new film – ‘Silence… Can You Hear It?’

This time around, Prachi isn’t shying away from speaking on what kept her away from the limelight all this while.

Here’s what she was quoted telling PTI on the subject of nepotism:

“We have all seen how much Bollywood is about playing within the film families so that’s the reason. I have always been a private person and somebody who never dabbled in any clans. To add to that, I was getting repetitive offers. I had to choose from what I thought was best for me at that point in time.”

Having said that, Prachi is also excited for this new wave of OTT filmmakers, who are independent and bringing a fresh change to the industry with no dearth of opportunities for real talents.

After her take on nepotism and ‘filmy families’, would be interesting to know what her equation with former mentor Ekta Kapoor would be, considering she also hails from a so-called ‘filmy family.’

Prachi’s new film ‘Silence… Can You Hear It?’ is set for a release on Zee5 on 26th March.
