When Kangana Ranaut Rejected Fairness Cream Ad Worth Rs 2 Crore, As She ‘Didn’t want to set a bad example for youth’

Back when Kangana Ranaut had freshly had the taste of solo success, after the unprecedented success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns, there was something more that garnered her the love of public.

It was when reports circulated about the actress turning down a Rs 2 crore deal from a leading fairness cosmetic manufacturer, that turned her into a ‘hero’ of sorts.

After the success of two female-led flicks (Queen and TWMR), it is usually time for a lot of mainstream Bollywood celebs to indulge in various endorsements deals to bring in constant moolah, but Ms. Ranaut decided to go sideways and set an example for the youth.

The actress later stated that she doesn’t quite understand the idea of ‘fairness’ and hence did not want to set a bad example for the youth.

In a country obsessed with wanting to be fair and whiter, with a billion dollar industry in hand, and A-list celebs constantly appearing on TV ads to tell you that you can do much better in life if you choose to brighten your complexion with their product, Kangana’s stand struck a chord with those who have been promoting the idea of ‘loving the skin you’re in.’

And it is things like these, that have turned her into a youth icon and one of the most adored actresses of India.
