Breaking Stereotypes: 24-YO Girl from Mumbai, Becomes the City’s First Female Bus Driver

Pratiksha Das – a 24 year old girl from Mumbai has set out to break gender stereotypes for the better.

Pratiksha is the one of the few women in the country and the first in Mumbai to drive a public-transport bus on the city’s crowded roads, a profession which has largely been dominated by men.

After completing her mechanical engineering degree from Thakur College in Malad, Das, who is also an avid bike-rider, contemplated becoming an RTO officer which required her to have a heavy vehicle driving license.

In her pursuit of the same, combined with her passion for driving heavy vehicles, Das sought to train herself along with an all-male batch of BEST drivers, becoming the first female bus-driver of the metropolitan city.

Here is what she was quoted as saying by Times Of India:

“It is something I’ve wanted to master for the last six years. But my love for heavy vehicles is not new. I started off with bikes, then larger cars and now, I can drive buses and trucks. And yes it feels good.”

Pratiksha Das, a 24 year old young girl becomes the first woman driver to take the driver’s seat of Mumbai’s BEST bus. Her this achievement comes from her sheer love for all the big and heavy vehicles and the strong wish to learn how to drive them as well.⠀ Click on the link in the bio to read her complete story. . . . #youthinc #youthincorporated #educate #entertain #pratikshadas #bestbus #busdriver #firstwomanbusdriver #firstwomanbestdriver #publictransport #pratiksha #mumbai
She further reflected back on her love for driving:

“I started with my mama’s bike when I was in the 8th grade in my village. Even he was surprised, how I learned driving within 2 days.”

More power to her and to every individual out there who’s willing to break societal stereotypes in pursuit of greater goals.
