Amritsar Tragedy: Man Who Played ‘Ravana’, Died While Pushing Others Off The Tracks

Dalbir Singh is one of the many folks who have lost their lives in Amritsar’s gut-wrenching “Dushhera tragedy.”

A local actor who essayed the role of ‘Raavan’ in a Raamleela at Dhobi Ghat, lost his life while trying to push away people from the tracks as he witnessed the speeding train running towards the unaware spectators.

Singh, managed to push away at least 7-8 people off the train’s way, but his own feet got stuck somewhere on the tracks, leading to the train running over him and killing him on the spot.

Dalbir – who had recently turned into a father, has left behind his widow mother, wife and an 8 month toddler – who are struck with grief at the unfathomable tragedy.

Sawan Kaur – Dalbir’s mother now worries about the survival of her family and pleads the government to provide her daughter-in-law a job to take care of her little son.



“I appeal to the government to provide a job to my daughter-in law,” news agency ANI quoted Sawan Kaur.

The nationwide celebration of Dushhera, took a tragic turn yesterday as a train rammed into over hundred folks standing nearby the premises of a Ravana-effigy burning spot in Amritsar.

The death toll from the tragedy has risen to 61 so far, while there are several injured people being treated in nearby hospitals.
