Shaan Talks About Being ‘Out of Work’ and the Changing Times In Music…

Showbiz is definitely not an industry filled with certainties. A star that shines bright today, may come tumbling down right before your eyes tomorrow – and you can barely ever presume any of that.

Shaan – who was once one of the busiest playback singers and recording artists of the Indian music industry, has had to deal with something similar in the recent years of his professional career.

The Filmfare award winning singer, who’s been recording actively for the past 20 years or so, was ‘practically out of work’ for nearly 3-4 years – as the singer recently revealed himself.

Looking back at the ‘downward slope’ in his career, Shaan was quoted telling PTI:

“From 2010 to 2013-14, I was not able to understand what was happening. Why was I not getting the work that I was getting earlier? What did I do wrong?”

It didn’t take long for the singer to realize that it was the advent of ‘new artists’, who had apparently struck a resounding chord with a new generation of music lovers, who constitute a major portion of the potential buyers, because of which the versatile vocalist  suddenly wasn’t ‘as hot as he used to be.’

“I couldn’t find the answer but I figured that it happens with everyone as new people come in and they take over. But now, my belief in my own singing has grown. I feel I am a better singer today. I have worked on my shortcomings. I am working hard and am proud of myself.”

Shaan understands the shift in music and the music biz, and realizes that a new potential now lies in live performances – especially if you want to keep the cheques coming.

“Music as an industry is going through a lot of changes. I don’t know how well-paying it is to be a singer today. If you can entertain through live performances, then the sky is the limit as people enjoy it,” he said.

So here I am… ready to sing for you. Your Choice .. my voice :)) #LoveInConcert
Shaan is now in an new pursuit of some ‘independent music’ and we couldn’t be more excited for him.

For what is more interesting than an artist, escaping the boundations of the gigantic money-making machinery, and spreading wings on their own?

What do you think?
