On-screen Tabu is one of the biggest acting powerhouses Indian cinema has witnessed in the past 20 years. The actress who’s done just as much of mainstream work as the ‘art-house’ projects she has often been associated with, has proven her acting metal time and time again.
Be it her heart-wrenching, National-Award winning performance in ‘Chandni Bar’, or her internationally lauded work in Mira Nair’s ‘The Namesake’ – Tabu is one actress, we all like looking forward to. Even her supportive work in movies like ‘Haider’ and ‘Drishyam’ stole the show.
Now the actress, at 46, is looking back at her personal life – something that has somehow managed to be mostly out of all the tabloid-talks, reminiscing over her decision to not get married and her illustrious movie career at the Jagran Film Festival.
The festival is celebrating a number of movies from the actress’ career, where she was also quizzed about her association with the kind of roles she’s played over the years, in the hour long discussion at the event.
When asked if she things that her decision to stay single was the best thing she ever did, the actress said – ‘Every Moment.’
“Because I don’t know the other side, right? So how can I say this is better or that is better. Only when I experience that, then I will understand that if this was good or if this is good. I’ve never been married, so I don’t know how good or bad it is,” she added.
But the marriage questions still continue to flow-in.

“These are all questions I have no answer to… That’s the problem,” she said.
Speaking about her closeness to the role she played in ‘Cheeni Kum’ – a 34 year old woman who falls in love with a 64 year old man, played by Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu stated how the role was ‘closer to home’ that any other she played before.
“I can so be that person, and I understand her totally, I get her, and that’s why I think I could do that. I was convinced of their romance. Also, of course, you have to give 200 percent credit to the man (Amitabh Bachchan) who I was romancing, and that’s why it was that much convincing.”
Doesn’t mean that Tabu has had a tryst with a man that age in her real life, she’s apparently just talking about the personal traits of the character.
“Tabu playing Tabu… almost… except that it hasn’t happened in real life”.
Relating the character back to her life and to the previous questions on her marital status and future plans, Tabu further stated:
“So it goes to say that if somebody like that, in that space, with that vibe, with that everything, then I am absolutely okay with it. For her (the character), I think the age is not the barrier, it’s what she strikes with that person… So yes, I could be that person.”

Wonder why someone’s ‘marital status’ even matters in this day and age. One can be just as happy, with or without a partner, you know?
Can’t wait to see her phenomenal talent shine in more projects in future.
