Manoj Bajpayee’s Act in ‘Aligarh’ Named Last Decade’s Best Performance in Hindi Cinema

In our recent top 10, a number of movie buffs got together on the table, to put forth their opinion on who, they thought, delivered the best performance the last ten years.

The likes of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee and Irrfan Khan – were the names that were heard in repetitions.

And while there were some pretty world-class performance delivered by many, putting the 2010’s in the bracket of the best that Indian cinema has had to offer in it’s 100 years, Manoj Bajpayee’s act in the critically acclaimed Aligarh, took the top spot.

The award-winning actor, stepped in the shoes of professor Ramchandra Siras – who served in the Aligarh Muslim University, and was forcibly outed from the closet and not only shamed for being a homosexual, but also sacked from his job from the same.

The hard-hitting and gut-wrenching drama was directed by the fantastic Hansal Mehta and Manoj Bajpayee’s performance could easily be deemed one of the best of his career – which, in itself, is quite an achievement considering the kind of body of work he boasts of.

While Manoj Bajpayee earned the #1 spot, the top 3 was rounded-up with performances from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kalki Koechlin who raised-up the bar with their act in Manto and Margarita with a Straw, respectively.

But for now, here’s a toast to Mr. Bajpayee – one of the very best talents we have today in Indian cinema.
