First Transgender Wedding From West Bengal Spawns Hope For Trans Community

West Bengal celebrated its first transgender wedding earlier this month.

38 year old Tista Das, was every bit of a traditional Bengoli bride while 40 year old Dipan Chakraborty, was a shy groom – as the two recited their vows in a traditional affair in Kolkata, Agarpara’s Mahajati area.

In the presence of their loved ones, family members, friends and neighbors, the duo were officially bound by an eternal commitment of love.

Tista – who was born as Susanto and went under a sex reassignment surgery 15 years ago, longed to prove that love truly knows no boundaries of gender, while Dipan – who was born Dipannita, made their dream come true by ‘putting a ring on it’ earlier this year, on the 15th of April, on National Transgender Day of Visibility.

Take a sneak peak at some of the highlights of their beautiful wedding:

“I always believed love has no gender and Dipan and I have proved it,” Tista said.

And so, they did.

The pandit, who performed the recitals for the duo, too was ecstatic to be a part of the matrimony.

“I have never seen anything like this. This is a historical event and I am happy to be a part of it. In fact, I cancelled another appointment for this day,” he said.

Here’s another peak it at the affair:

While Dipan’s family was not there to support him as they still have difficulty accepting him for who he is, Trista’s friends and family lauded the duo for setting an example within their community.

“It takes a lot of guts to do this,” one of her friends said.

The beautiful union between these two soul did not just start a new journey of love in their respective lives, but has perhaps also opened the doors for other transgender folks of the country.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
