Jiah Khan’s death case may finally be getting to a closure, as her estranged boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi has been charged with ‘Abetment To Suicide’ by a sessions court in Mumbai.
Pancholi had apparently pleaded ‘not guilty’ in the case. His lawyer, Prashant Patil has said in a statement:
“Sooraj pleaded innocence and the examination of witnesses will start from February 14.”
Section 306 of IPC which deals with ‘Abetment To Suicide’, takes into account the influence an individual has on the victim’s decision to end his or her life. The influence could be a direct encouragement or some other form of instigation.
It was back in October 2013, four months after the death of her daughter, when Rabiya Khan moved the Bombay High Court – alleging that her daughter’s death was a murder and not a suicide. Rabiya had also sought CBI probe in the matter.
Jiah died by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on June 3, 2013 – during the absence of her mother and sister at Mumbai residence. Sooraj who was seeing the troubled actress at that time was alleged of forcing her to undergo an abortion, however the same has not been proven yet in the court of law.
In her final letter found by the Mumbai police, Jiah had described her relationship with Sooraj as ‘mentally and physically abusive.’ – which hinted at his direct involvement in her suicide.
