The 84 year old icon, who’s lent her unique instrument to over 11,000 songs in more than 20 languages, was honored for her illustrious career that has inspired a string of countless imitators.
Making the moment all the more special, the celebrated diva received a personal homage from the on-screen diva, Rekha – who bowed down to Asha’s feet congratulating her on her unparalleled contribution to Bollywood.

Rekha and Asha Bhosle have worked together to bring a number of memorable tunes to the big-screen, including classics like ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ and ‘In Aankhon Ki Masti Mein’ – and it was quite a sight to have Rekha bow-down to pay tribute to one of the most respected vocalists of the past 100 years.
As the crowd looked at the two divas in amazement, Rekha also took the opportunity to plant a kiss on Asha Bhosle’s cheeks to congratulate her.

The legendary singer then took a spot behind the microphone as she lent her voice to sing a few lines of her unforgettable classic, ‘Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu’ from the 1965 released movie, ‘Waqt.’
The Yash Chopra Memorial awards were started by MP T Subbarami Reddy back in the year 2014 and its previous four honorees include – Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Shah Rukh Khan.
