6 September 2018, will go down in history as the day India’s marginalized and largely ignored LGBT community moved one step ahead towards ‘equality’ in the society, as the country’s apex, Supreme Court struck down section 377 – decriminalizing gay-sex among consenting adults.
The landmark and historic judgement has been widely covered by domestic as well as international media outlets, as ally’s and friends of the queer community have welcomed the move with open hearts.
It is an emotional and heart-rendering moment for those countless, closeted and not-so-closeted folks who have lived in the fear of law – often being subjected to blackmail, extortion and discrimination on grounds of the same.
Not anymore! Section 377, the archaic, loathed, despised and debated, colonial-era law – is now a thing of the past. And we hope it stays there.
Celebrating the victory Star Gold imminently released a heartwarming video as a homage to love in all shape, form and colors of the rainbow – which often get ignored because of our habit of looking at things strictly from our rigid, conventional perspectives – something we have been fed to live and believe.
Many people pointed out how the video sums-up the true essence of the song even more than the original video from Mughal-E-Azam did. And we can’t help but agree. For which community has had to fight for the very basic ‘right to love’ more than our brothers and sisters from the queer community?
Now, it is finally the time they can all come out of the closets and proclaim – ‘Jab Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya?’
