Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have had an earlier affiliation, which resulted into one of the biggest hits of their respective careers. We’re talking about 3 Idiots – the inspirational coming-of-age flick that grossed a whopping 459 crores at the worldwide box office.

Aamit – who’s known to be a perfectionist and picks his movies very carefully and manages to escalate almost every project he stars in beyond mediocrity was reportedly also asked to be a part of Hirani’s upcoming Sanjay Dutt biopic, ‘Sanju’!

However, the actor wasn’t offered the titular character of the ‘Munna Bhai’ star, but was instead asked to play the role of his late father – Sunil Dutt.

Aamir adamantly declined the offer as he was more interested in playing the title role of Sanjay Dutt, which by that time, had already been given to Ranbir Kapoor.

Here is what Khan said on the subject:

“Raju(Rajkumar Hirani) approached me with the script and I absolutely loved it. He wanted me to play Dutt Sahab’s role (Sunil Dutt) . Actually, Dutt’s Sahab’s role is fantastic in the film, the main story in the film is about a father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable, as an actor I told Raju, “arey yaar Sanjay Dutt ka role itna kamaal ka hai that it has won my heart.” In this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s which I can’t do because Ranbir is doing, so don’t offer me any other role because I won’t be able to do it.”

The line-up of actors recreating some very-known faces who have played various parts in ‘the Sanjay Dutt story’ is no less interesting even with Aamir’s absence.

Sunil Dutt’s character is now being played by Paresh Rawal, while Manisha Koirala is playing Sanjay’s late mother, Nargis.

Sonam Kapoor has stepped in the shoes of Tina Munim, while Dia Mirza is seen playing the role of Sanjay’s present wife, Manyata Dutt.

Do you think Aamir Khan would have delivered as Sunil Dutt, or you’re better off with Paresh Rawal?
