While everyone went gaga over Ranbir Kapoor’s first look and then his various methods in the extended trailer for ‘Sanju’ – there were two people who gave slightly mixed reactions following the first full teaser of the much-anticipated flick.
Ranbir – who’s stepped in the shoes of actor Sanjay Dutt, in a Bollywood-istic biopic of the controversial star, helmed by filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani – has been adorned with praises for his life-like depiction of the ‘Khalnayak’ star.
However, Salman Khan and Arshad Warsi – two actors who also happen to be close friends of Dutt, did not quite feel Kapoor could ever do justice to the role.
While praising Ranbir for his efforts and his acting chops, Salman Khan insisted that the later half of the movie featuring the more recent events of Sanjay Dutt’s life should have been played by the actor himself.
Reports by news agency PTI, quoted the actor telling:
“For Sanju, I was thinking why is somebody else playing this bit? The last 8-10 years. You cannot do justice to that. Sanju should have played the last bit.”

Later actor Arshad Warsi too chimed-in insisting that no matter how hard one tries to mimic, ‘One can never really be Sanju baba.’
Warsi, who’s starred alongside Dutt in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ also stated that the role could only be pulled off by, Sanjay himself.
Ranbir, who was keeping mum about the opinions has finally presented his own outlook on the discussion and here is what he had to say:
In a recent media interaction with Times Now, here is what Ranbir was quoted telling the press:
“It has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic. This destroys the effect of a character. I knew that I will be compared to Sanjay Dutt and that is why I have tried my best to do justice to his role. Whether people see me in 40-year-old Sanjay Dutt’s avatar or 20-year-old, they should feel that they are watching an artiste who is playing Sanjay Dutt. It is correct that I cannot become a second Sanjay Dutt.”
Point noted Ranbir.

You can’t deny – the idea of someone playing themselves in their own biopic is a bit absurd. Now how well Ranbir pulled it off is something we’ll find out once the movie hits the theaters on June 29th.
What do you think?
