Mahavatar Narsimha, the Indian animated mythological action film, has stunned industry watchers with its impressive box office performance. Released on July 25, 2025, the film has emerged as one of the most successful Indian animated releases in recent years, outperforming expectations by a wide margin.
Initially released in Hindi and dubbed in multiple Indian languages, the film opened to modest collections of around ₹1.75 crore net. However, positive word-of-mouth, especially from family audiences and mythological film enthusiasts, propelled its weekend figures to ₹15.85 crore net, according to trade estimates. This strong surge continued throughout the week, with the film crossing ₹44.75 crore net in its first seven days.
By day 9, Mahavatar Narsimha saw a dramatic rise in earnings. The film collected an estimated ₹15.4 crore net on a single day, the highest ever for an Indian animated movie. The Hindi version alone contributed ₹11.25 crore that day, signaling strong acceptance across urban and Tier‑2 markets. The total net collection across India had reached approximately ₹67.85 crore by the end of day 9, as per available box office tracking data.
On its 10th day, the film added another ₹11.64 crore to its tally, taking its total to nearly ₹80 crore gross (over ₹70 crore net). This places Mahavatar Narsimha in the top tier of Indian animated releases and among the most profitable Indian films of 2025, delivering more than 350% return on its estimated ₹15 crore production budget.
What makes this success even more notable is the film’s genre. Animated films in India have historically struggled at the box office, especially when compared to mainstream live-action content. However, Mahavatar Narsimha appears to have broken that barrier, thanks to a combination of strong storytelling, cultural resonance, and growing audience openness to Indian mythology presented through high-quality animation.
Trade analysts now consider the film a “super-hit” and believe it has paved the way for more such projects in the future. Its performance has also placed it among the top animated earners in India’s history, alongside internationally dubbed features.
