The great songbird of India Lata Mangeshkar has been given a spot in the coveted Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 200 greatest singers of all time.
A revised list released by the renowned international publication features 200 well-known singers from various genres, countries and musical styles, who according to the list-curators – are the greatest singers ever.
Lata Mangeshkar – who’s often been regarded as the greatest playback singer of India, has been put at the 84th spot in the list. While the ranking may not please all Indian fans, but she’s the only Indian female singer to mark her presence on the list.

Meanwhile, Pakistani legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has also been placed in the top 200, and he has been ranked 91 in the list.
The #1 spot in their list is occupied by Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin – who was regarded for her soulful vocals, while the #2 spot is held by legendary vocalist Whitney Houston, whose new biopic ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ is presently running in theaters. Top 3 is rounded off by another classic Soul voice – Sam Cooke, who’s placed at #3 for his remarkable vocals.
