The year in cinema is coming to a closure and the time to reflect back at what the movies of 2022 had to offer has already commenced.

While several mainstream awards have announced their nominations, small-budget blockbusters like The Kashmir Files – are also making waves.

The Vivek Agnihotri directed film has been recognized with a special award at LIFFT where it was given the – Best Feature Film on Human Rights recognition.

The film is based on the heartbreaking stories of Kashmiri Pundits, knitted through multiple stories which were said to be inspired from real-life events.

Expressing his gratitude upon the win, Vivek took to his Twitter handle and said:

“GOOD NEWS: Happy to inform that #TheKashmirFiles has been awarded as ‘Best Film on Human Rights’ by #LIIFT2022. My gratitude to the people of India.”

The Kashmir Files was released on 11 March 2022. The film was made on a modest budget of 15 crores and went on to garner a whopping 340 crores at the box office – bringing the world’s attention to the plights of Kashmiri Pundits.

The film re-ignited several discussions involving the rehabilitation of those who lost their homes in Kashmir and stirred many emotions across the nation.
