Karan Johar has famously launched several star-kids in the industry.
The ace producer who runs one of the biggest and most influential production houses in Bollywood has given numerous opportunities to aspiring stars of established names in showbiz.
Although the Hindi film audiences have increasingly shown resentment towards the trend of promoting star-kids, that doesn’t mean there’s any dearth of opportunities for those who hail from influential families.
Here are some of star-kids that have been launched by Karan Johar, so far:
1) Alia Bhatt
Alia made her debut in the much-hyped project ‘Student Of The Year’ in 2012. She is the daughter of director and producer Mahesh Bhatt and hails from a prominent family. The actress has since made mark in the industry with her acting skills.
2) Varun Dhawan
Varun is the son of famous director David Dhawan – hailed by many as the comedy king of the 90’s. Varun made her acting debut alongside Alia Bhatt in the year 2012 with Johar’s Student Of The Year.
3) Janhvi Kapoor
The eldest daughter of late actress Sri Devi, Jahnvi made her acting debut in Bollywood shortly after her mother’s demise. She was given a big launch by Karan Johar with the film ‘Dhadak’ in the year 2018, which was a remake of Marathi film ‘Sairat.’
4) Ananya Panday
Daughter of 90’s actor Chunkey Panday, made her debut in Bollywood with the Karan Johar produced ‘Student Of The Year 2’ in 2019.
5) Ishaan Khattar
Ishaan is the brother of established Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor and son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor. Although Ishaan had already made her debut with a film called ‘Beyond The Clouds’, he got his ‘mainstream break’ alongside Janhvi in the film Dhadak, produced by Karan.
6) Shanaya Kapoor
KJo is now set to launch the daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor in the upcoming film entitled ‘Bedhadak’.
7) Khushi Kapoor
It is also being reported that Karan Johar wishes to launch the other daughter of the late Sri Devi, Jahnvi’s younger sister – Khushi.
8) Suhana Khan
Daughter of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has been a very close friend of Karan Johar for years, Suahana might get her first break courtesy of Johar’s production house Dharma productions. Interestingly, Karan had previously also reported to have said that he was keen on launching SRK’s elder son Aryan Khan to movies.
Aside from launching star-kids, Karan Johar has famously worked with well-established names from ‘filmy families’ in several other movies. He has long had the reputation of giving preference to star-kids in his movies, seen by the films that have been released under his banner over the years. Some of these include:
