2022 is about to conclude and it is good time to reflect back at the year that was and what it had to offer to cinephiles.
It was an unusual and extraordinary year for Indian cinema, wherein we saw non-Hindi ventures take the top spot at the box-office, continually leaving behind mainstream Bollywood stars – who have had a monopoly as Pan-India releases for decades.
With the door that was shattered by Rajamouli’s Baahubali and the first part of KGF, new ventures this year like – RRR and KGF 2 broke several box-office records, and were loved by audiences and critics alike.
RRR, in fact, has achieved an unprecedented level of international acclaim for an Indian film – and might become the first-ever Indian film to earn a ‘Best Picture’ Oscar nomination in the upcoming ceremony.
We also had other small-budget remarkable films like The Kashmir Files and Kantara that struck a resounding chord with audiences and rewrote all the formulas of mainstream Bollywood, further establishing the fact – that no formula really works permanently.
