Oscars Calling: SS Rajamouli Wins Best Director For ‘RRR’ At New York Film Critics Circle

SS Rajamouli and his magnum opus RRR is slowly inching closer to the big ‘O’ dream.

The renowned director’s project has garnered an unprecedented level of international fame and acclaim for an Indian film, and it is now eying multiple nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards ALA Oscars.

The film is garnering high level Oscar buzz, ahead of the 2023 ceremony – which is unheard of for an Indian film, as the anticipation is for nominations in the ‘main’ award categories, and not just ‘Best Foreign Language Film’

To strengthen the film’s Oscar campaign, the film has now garnered a major award at the New York Film Critics Circle.

Rajamouli has been awarded the ‘Best Director’ award at the ceremony, which is often said to give a picture of what the Oscars wins and nominations might look like.

In doing so, Rajamouli has beaten the likes of Steven Spielberg, Todd Field, Sarah Polley in the category.

According to reports, 16 out of the 22 people who have won New York Critics Film Circle award have also gone on to win the Oscars in this particular category – which means Rajamouli chances of winning the golden statue are even stronger now.
