‘Is It A Sin To Be Hindu?’, Dr. Nambi Naryanan Reacts To Criticism Of His Role As A Hindu Scientist In ‘Rocketery’

Dr. Nambi Narayanan, the former aerospace scientist at ISRO has opened up about criticism over his portrayal as a Hindu in the biopic ‘Rocketery : The Nambi effect’.

Rocketery received worldwide appreciation and performed decent at the box office. The biopic was directorial debut of Actor R Madhavan who also portrayed the role of Dr. Nambi.

While speaking with Deccan Vahini, he said:

“It is funny sometimes. You know somebody wrote a review saying that Nambi Narayanan is shown as Hindu. Nambi Narayanan is doing some Utsavam, reciting Suprabhatam, this, that, and all kinds of things. He is a Brahmin. He is a Hindu. Hindutva is being shown. I just wanted to ask you – I am a Hindu. I mean I have no shame in saying that. Is it a sin to be a Hindu?”

He further said that he got support from political leaders from two different ideologies:

“We see Narendra Modi as a BJP leader, not as a Prime Minister. For your information, I will tell you. Forget about Narendra Modi. Do you know that the present chief minister of Kerala has given me excellent support? In what way his support is less? He has cut down on the fighting of my case. So you will call me a communist fellow?”

The great Indian aerospace scientist, Dr. Nambi was wrongly accused of passing critical information to Pakistan but after years long battle for justice, he was aquitted of all the charges against him in 1996.

Dr. Nambi was shown a Hindu who practices his religion ardently in the movie but that did not go down well with some of the viewers, as they questioned scenes of him doing Puja in the film.
